1. Accepting these Terms
By ticking the agreement box and continuing with Google Sign-In, you confirm that:
you have read and agree to these Terms of Service;
you have read the Bark Quest Privacy Policy;
the information you provide will be accurate to the best of your knowledge;
you will use Bark Quest responsibly and lawfully.
Do not create or continue using a Bark Quest account if you do not agree to these Terms.
The Privacy Policy explains how personal information is accessed, collected, used, stored, shared and deleted. It is available at:
https://www.thedogschool101.co.uk/bark-quest-privacy-policy
2. Who may use Bark Quest
Bark Quest is intended for adult dog owners and handlers.
You must be at least 18 years old to create and manage a Bark Quest account.
A child may accompany an adult during a Bark Quest activity only with the permission and direct supervision of a parent, guardian or other responsible adult. A child must not independently create or manage a Bark Quest account.
The supervising adult remains responsible for the child’s safety, conduct and use of Bark Quest.
3. What Bark Quest provides
Bark Quest is an outdoor recreational adventure app for dogs and their handlers.
Features may include:
outdoor quest routes;
clues and QR-code activities;
location-based challenges;
dog profiles;
photographs;
digital badges, rewards and collectibles;
completion times and results;
leaderboards;
Wall of Fame posts;
public result pages;
sharing features;
optional quest preferences and suggestions;
sponsor, partner, charity or local-business information.
Features may differ between locations, test versions, devices and app releases.
Bark Quest is currently provided free of charge unless a particular future feature or offer clearly states otherwise.
4. Outdoor safety and personal responsibility
Bark Quest involves outdoor activity. Outdoor environments can contain hazards that Bark Quest cannot control, including:
roads and moving vehicles;
uneven, slippery, muddy or unstable ground;
water;
steep banks;
fallen branches;
vegetation, thorns and grass seeds;
livestock and wildlife;
other dogs and members of the public;
changing weather;
poor lighting;
temporary closures;
construction or maintenance work;
damaged, missing or inaccessible QR markers.
You are responsible for deciding whether a route, surface, weather condition, activity or location is safe and suitable for you, your dog and anyone accompanying you.
You must:
remain aware of your surroundings;
follow signs, local rules and instructions from landowners or authorities;
use designated public paths and permitted access routes;
keep away from private, closed, restricted or dangerous areas;
keep your dog under appropriate control;
use a lead wherever required or reasonably necessary;
take particular care near roads, water, livestock, wildlife and other dogs;
stop or leave the quest if conditions become unsafe;
avoid using your phone while crossing a road or where doing so would create a hazard.
A clue, map marker, location reading or QR marker must never be treated as an instruction to enter private land, cross a barrier, ignore a warning sign or place yourself or your dog in danger.
Do not continue towards a quest point merely because the app appears to direct you there if the route is unsafe, inaccessible or prohibited.
In an emergency, contact the appropriate emergency service rather than relying on Bark Quest.
5. Your dog’s health, welfare and behaviour
You are responsible for your dog’s health, welfare, behaviour and suitability for an activity.
Do not take part, or stop taking part, if your dog is:
unwell, injured or in pain;
excessively tired, frightened or distressed;
struggling because of heat, cold or weather conditions;
showing behaviour that may create a risk to people, animals or property;
not physically capable of completing the route safely.
Bring suitable water, equipment and any medication your dog may reasonably need.
Bark Quest content is provided for recreational purposes. It is not a substitute for veterinary advice, individual behaviour advice, professional training advice or emergency assistance.
Seek advice from a suitably qualified professional where needed.
6. Location, maps and route accuracy
Bark Quest may use your device’s current location to show your position, calculate proximity or decide whether a location-based feature can be unlocked.
Location and mapping technology is not always exact. Accuracy may be affected by:
the device being used;
signal strength;
buildings, trees or terrain;
satellite availability;
device permissions;
network availability;
map or route changes;
technical faults.
Distances, map markers and proximity checks are approximate gameplay tools. They are not safety or navigation guarantees.
You remain responsible for choosing a lawful and safe route.
Bark Quest does not request background-location permission and is not designed to track a continuous route history while the app is not being used.
You may refuse location permission, although some features may then be unavailable.
7. Camera, QR codes and photographs
Bark Quest may request camera access to:
scan quest QR codes;
take a dog profile photograph;
take a quest or completion photograph;
use another camera-based feature.
Only scan QR codes that are clearly connected with Bark Quest or that you otherwise trust.
Photographs are not automatically made public merely because you take or select them. A photograph becomes public only when you deliberately use a posting feature such as Post to Wall of Fame.
You may deny camera permission, although camera and QR features may then be unavailable.
8. Accounts and Google Sign-In
Bark Quest uses Google Sign-In and Firebase Authentication.
You are responsible for:
maintaining control of the Google account used to access Bark Quest;
protecting your device and sign-in details;
notifying us if you believe your Bark Quest account is being misused;
ensuring that information associated with your Bark Quest account is not deliberately false or misleading.
Bark Quest does not receive your Google password.
You must not:
impersonate another person;
create an account using information you are not entitled to use;
sell, transfer or lend your Bark Quest account;
access another person’s account without permission;
use automated methods to create or control accounts.
We may require reasonable verification before making changes to or deleting an account.
9. Quest progress, points, badges and rewards
Bark Quest may record:
clue completion;
quest progress;
completion status;
completion time;
points;
badges;
virtual rewards;
collectibles;
leaderboard information.
Unless expressly stated otherwise:
points, badges, virtual rewards and collectibles have no cash value;
they cannot be sold, transferred or exchanged for money;
they do not create an entitlement to a physical prize, payment or service;
they may be changed, corrected, withdrawn or replaced where reasonably necessary because of an error, misuse, technical problem or change to Bark Quest.
You must not attempt to manipulate:
completion times;
location checks;
QR results;
points;
rewards;
leaderboard positions;
public results.
We may correct inaccurate results or remove results obtained through misuse, cheating, technical manipulation or breach of these Terms.
10. Sponsor offers, vouchers and third-party promotions
Bark Quest may display information about sponsors, local businesses, charities, rewards, vouchers, events or partner offers.
Unless expressly stated otherwise:
displaying an offer does not guarantee its availability;
an offer may be subject to expiry dates, stock limits, location restrictions or separate terms;
a third-party business is responsible for the products, services or offers it supplies;
Bark Quest is not a party to a separate transaction between you and a third party;
you should check the third party’s own terms and privacy information before providing information or making a purchase.
Bark Quest does not currently use a third-party advertising network.
11. Wall of Fame and public results
Bark Quest may allow you to post a photograph and result to a public Wall of Fame or public result page.
Before posting, you must understand that the following may become publicly visible:
your dog’s name;
the photograph you select;
the quest or route name;
completion information;
completion time or duration;
a public result link.
Public content may be viewed, shared, copied or saved by other people. Bark Quest cannot fully control what other people do with information after it has been made public.
Do not post anything you do not want to be publicly visible.
You can request removal through:
Support and report content:
https://www.thedogschool101.co.uk/bark-quest-support-report
Account and data deletion:
https://www.thedogschool101.co.uk/bark-quest-account-deletion
Email:
info@thedogschool101.co.uk
12. Rules for photographs and other user content
You may upload or post content only where:
you created it or have the necessary permission to use it;
you have permission from every identifiable adult shown;
it does not infringe another person’s copyright, privacy or other rights;
it complies with these Terms and applicable law.
Do not upload or post:
photographs containing an identifiable child;
illegal content;
sexually explicit or pornographic content;
nudity;
violent, threatening or abusive content;
content promoting cruelty or harm to animals;
hateful or discriminatory content;
harassment or bullying;
content encouraging dangerous or unlawful activity;
misleading or fraudulent content;
another person’s private information;
home addresses, personal telephone numbers, passwords or financial information;
copyrighted content you do not have permission to use;
advertising, spam or repeated promotional material;
malicious files, code or links;
content that interferes with Bark Quest or another user.
Do not use another person’s photograph or identity without permission.
13. Ownership and licence for user content
You retain ownership of content you create.
When you deliberately post content to the Wall of Fame or another public Bark Quest feature, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to:
store and host it;
resize or format it where technically necessary;
display it through Bark Quest;
display it on the relevant Bark Quest Wall of Fame or public result page;
make the public result link function;
allow the sharing function you selected to operate.
This licence exists only for operating the feature you chose and dealing with legitimate records, reports or legal obligations.
We will not claim ownership of your photograph.
Posting to the Wall of Fame does not by itself give us permission to use an identifiable photograph in unrelated paid advertising. We would seek additional permission where that is required.
You may request that public content be removed. Removing public content does not necessarily remove copies already saved or shared independently by other people.
14. Reporting and moderation
You may report objectionable, unsafe, unlawful or rights-infringing Bark Quest content through the in-app Support or Report Content option or at:
https://www.thedogschool101.co.uk/bark-quest-support-report
When reporting content, provide enough information for us to identify the result or post.
We may, where reasonably appropriate:
review reported content;
temporarily hide content while it is reviewed;
refuse or remove content;
correct or restrict public results;
warn a user;
restrict posting;
suspend or terminate an account;
preserve information where reasonably required for security or legal purposes;
refer potentially unlawful content to the appropriate authority.
We are not obliged to publish every submission.
We may remove content without advance notice where we reasonably believe immediate action is required for safety, privacy, legal compliance, platform compliance or the protection of another person.
Where practical and appropriate, a user may contact us to ask why content or an account was restricted.
15. Acceptable use
You must not:
use Bark Quest unlawfully;
endanger another person or animal;
damage, remove, cover, alter or interfere with a Bark Quest QR marker;
place unauthorised Bark Quest markers or signs;
trespass or encourage trespassing;
interfere with another user’s enjoyment of a quest;
deliberately provide false reports;
attempt to bypass location, progress or reward controls;
reverse engineer or interfere with Bark Quest except where the law expressly permits it;
test or exploit security vulnerabilities without written permission;
introduce malware or harmful code;
scrape, copy or harvest Bark Quest data using automated methods;
use Bark Quest content, routes, branding or systems to operate a competing commercial quest without written permission;
falsely imply an association with or endorsement by Bark Quest or The Dog Training School.
16. Intellectual property
Except for user content and third-party material, Bark Quest and its content are owned by or licensed to The Dog Training School.
This includes:
the Bark Quest name and branding;
logos;
artwork;
route content;
clue wording;
badges;
graphics;
page layouts;
app code;
databases;
written content.
We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use Bark Quest for lawful, non-commercial recreational use in accordance with these Terms.
No other rights are transferred to you.
17. Suggestions and feedback
You may choose to provide feedback, route suggestions or ideas.
You confirm that you are entitled to submit them.
We may use feedback and suggestions to evaluate, develop or improve Bark Quest without being required to use them or pay compensation.
Do not include confidential, commercially sensitive or unnecessary personal information in a suggestion.
18. Availability, changes and technical problems
We aim to keep Bark Quest available and functioning, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access.
Bark Quest may be affected by:
maintenance;
internet or mobile connectivity;
third-party service failure;
device compatibility;
software bugs;
missing or damaged QR markers;
route closures;
safety concerns;
legal or regulatory requirements;
changes made by Google Play, Firebase, Google Maps, Wix or another provider.
We may reasonably:
repair or update the app;
add, change or remove features;
change a route;
suspend a quest;
correct content or results;
temporarily restrict access;
discontinue a feature or version.
We will try to avoid unnecessary disruption and provide reasonable notice of a significant permanent change where practical.
You are responsible for installing updates made available through Google Play where an update is necessary for security or continued compatibility.
19. Beta and test versions
If you access Bark Quest through internal, closed, open or other beta testing:
the app is still being tested;
some features may be incomplete;
errors, crashes or unexpected behaviour may occur;
test data or results may need to be corrected or removed;
features and wording may change before public release.
Please report problems through the support route provided.
Do not rely on a test feature where failure could create a safety risk.
20. Third-party services and links
Bark Quest uses or links to services supplied by third parties, which may include:
Google Sign-In;
Firebase;
Google Maps;
Google Play;
Wix;
device sharing tools;
messaging or social-media applications.
Those services may have their own terms and privacy practices.
We are not responsible for the operation or content of a third-party service that is outside our reasonable control, although this does not affect any responsibility we have under applicable law for services we provide.
Exercise care before following a third-party link or sharing information with another platform.
21. Suspension and termination
We may suspend, restrict or terminate access where we reasonably believe that:
these Terms have been seriously or repeatedly breached;
an account is being used unlawfully or fraudulently;
content creates a safety, privacy or legal risk;
an account is being used to abuse, threaten or harass others;
action is necessary to protect Bark Quest, its users, third parties or service providers;
we are required to do so by law or a platform provider.
Where appropriate, we will consider the seriousness of the issue and whether a warning or content removal would be sufficient.
Immediate restriction may be used where delay could create a material safety, legal or security risk.
You may stop using Bark Quest at any time.
22. Account and data deletion
You may request deletion of your Bark Quest account and associated data through the in-app Delete My Account option or at:
https://www.thedogschool101.co.uk/bark-quest-account-deletion
You may also email:
Deleting the app from your device does not automatically delete your Bark Quest account or cloud data.
Further information about deletion, retained records and processing times appears on the deletion page and in the Privacy Policy.
23. Responsibility for loss and your legal rights
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits responsibility where it would be unlawful to do so.
In particular, nothing excludes or limits responsibility for:
death or personal injury caused by negligence;
fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
breach of rights that cannot lawfully be excluded;
any other liability that the law does not permit us to exclude.
We are responsible for losses that are a foreseeable result of our breach of these Terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill.
We are not responsible for losses caused by matters outside our reasonable control or by:
your failure to follow clear safety instructions;
entering prohibited or unsafe areas;
using Bark Quest in a manner these Terms do not allow;
inaccurate information supplied by you;
the independent actions of another user or third party;
loss of connectivity or failure of your own device;
an unsafe decision made despite an obvious real-world hazard.
Bark Quest is provided for personal and recreational use. We are not responsible for business losses, including lost profit, lost business or business interruption, where you use Bark Quest for a commercial purpose not agreed with us.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory consumer rights.
24. Privacy
Our handling of personal information is explained in the Bark Quest Privacy Policy:
https://www.thedogschool101.co.uk/bark-quest-privacy-policy
You can control certain permissions, including location and camera access, through your device settings.
Optional marketing consent is separate from acceptance of these Terms. You do not have to agree to marketing in order to use Bark Quest.
25. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms where reasonably necessary because of:
changes to Bark Quest;
new features;
legal or regulatory requirements;
safety or security concerns;
platform-policy requirements;
changes to third-party services.
The updated date will appear at the top of this page.
Where a change materially affects users, we will provide reasonable notice through the app, website, email or another appropriate method where practical.
Changes will not remove rights that you already have under applicable law.
If you do not agree to updated Terms, you should stop using Bark Quest and may request deletion of your account.
26. General provisions
If any part of these Terms is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply.
A delay in enforcing a provision does not mean that we have given up the right to enforce it later.
These Terms are between you and us. No other person has a right to enforce them unless applicable law provides otherwise.
27. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer resident in another part of the United Kingdom, you retain any mandatory protections available under the law of the place where you live and may be entitled to bring proceedings in your local courts.
We encourage you to contact us first so that we can try to resolve a concern.
